Daniel Fundraising Activities
These photos may look like they have come from Sydney’s hottest new Bachelor auction, but that is NOT how Daniel and the team at Impact Displays will be fundraising this year. Instead Impact Displays will continue their involvement with the Bondi 2 Berry fundraising “Ride to Remember” for the 5th consecutive year since the event’s inception in 2016.
Now taking place on Saturday 5 December 2020, the challenging yet beautiful ride – 155km in distance, and elevation of 1,700m will kick off in the early morning. Six groups of 20 riders starting from the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club, riding out of the Eastern Suburbs and travelling through parts of the Royal National Park to Wollongong, Kiama and finishing in Berry on the NSW south coast. The ride is an open road event, adhering to normal road rules and is sanctioned by Cycling NSW. There are support vehicles for each of the groups, as well as first aid and bike mechanics on the course.

After much consideration the previously scheduled Bondi2Berry Ride to Remember was postponed earlier in the year. This decision was made with the health and safety of all attendees in mind, including our riders, volunteers and event crew, as well as the communities we visit along the way to Berry. During these unprecedented times the event organisers have stayed agile and alert on how they can continue to support their ultimate goal of awareness and funds for Dementia Australia.
Similarly, Impact displays have stayed agile and alert on how we can continue contributing and supporting despite these troubled times. Without the efforts of volunteers and committed sponsors the event would never be able to take place.
This year Daniel will switch from sponsor to a part of the organising committee. The organising team (pictured right) is 10 strong, and they are responsible for managing training rides, volunteers, event logistics, sponsorship, fundraising, council permissions and COVID safe plan. Daniel in particular will be responsible for managing the Berry finish line in 2020 as well as managing all of the sponsor relationships.
The goal for 2020 is to raise $200,000 for Dementia Australia. All funds raised by the ride will go towards researching a cure and associated research projects.
The “Ride to Remember” aims to raise awareness of dementia. Organisers Nick and Pierre have first hand experience with the disease, as do many of the Impact Display’s team. Their personal experiences, as well as those of many of their close friends, prompted the guys to use their passion for cycling to raise awareness and funds to help find a cure for the terrible disease.
Dementia has become the leading cause of death among Australian women, and the third leading cause of Australian men (ABS 2017). There is no cure.
There are more than 447,000 Australians currently living with dementia. This is on track to reach 589,807 by 2028. Without a major breakthrough in research, it is expected to soar to over 1 million Australians by 2058.
